A new dance instruction technology emerges!

As we travel teaching West Coast Swing workshops all over the world, we meet amazing people and are honoured to influence dancers’ development and impact their lives. But there are only so many weekends in a year and we can’t be everywhere at once, and though so many your invitations have tempted us, we can’t move to your city and teach regularly.

But we have found a viable solution – a way to follow up with the dance epiphanies you sparked while we were there, a way to keep learning from us on a regular basis without chasing us around the world!

As you may or may not remember, a few years ago, we were proud to pioneer the world’s first live webcast dance lessons. We discontinued because the technology was not accessible nor affordable enough yet to make it worthwhile. But our interest in technology and instruction delivery has kept our ears open to new opportunities. Over the past year, we have been in partnership with fellow championship dance professionals to create, produce and test a website that offers a new concept in dance learning, and now it’s LIVE!

What it is

MyDanceCoach.com is a unique online tool which allows dancers to access and connect with top championship dance coaches all over the world. It is an interactive site where dance students can upload short videos of themselves dancing and receive audio feedback on their dancing like a private lesson. They call it a Private Audio Lesson (P.A.L.).

• Instead of waiting until your coach comes back to town for workshops and coaching, you can get feedback on your progress today.
• Instead of being isolated in a small community or by not being able to travel to major events, you can still diversify and supplement your regular dance training by taking private lessons with world class coaches.
• Instead of downloading some generic dance move or lesson online, you can get personalized instruction specifically about your dancing, or you can get private feedback on how well you are learning those downloaded moves!
• Instead of quickly losing the effects of a breakthrough lesson from a Pro, maintain the “high” your dancing experienced from that coaching by following up more regularly with online PALs with that coach. Instead of constantly playing catchup and relearning what you have forgotten, use frequent PALs to “leverage” and launch your dancing to the next level.

How it works

You prepare a video file of 1min45 of your social or competition dancing. You pay the coach’s private lesson fee (which is a lower price than their live lesson rate) to upload it to the coach’s private section of the site. You can add a personal note to explain your goals and ask specific questions. The coach receives your PAL request, records their feedback, and uploads their PAL to your private account. You will be able to hear their feedback as you review your video. You can also order a PAL on your 3 minute choreographed routine.

The coaches on the site are some of the world’s top professionals in International Ballroom, and we (Myles and Tessa) are the delegates for West Coast Swing. More coaches from all styles will be added slowly, but this teaching method does not suit every coach, so there is a restrictive selection process. We are honoured to once again be pioneers for dance technology!
