In order to promote the expansion and advancement of authentic Swing, from time to time we offer Swing Scholarships. The scholarships are presented to a young person who demonstrates:

unusual enthusiasm
outstanding dance potential
commitment to technique
a positive, progressive attitude
leadership

Preference is given to candidates who have a financial need. Candidates do not need to be enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education. The funds must be applied toward their local training or towards their expenses for a dance event.

Tessa is also a BC Certified Teacher, and works as a Teacher-on-Call in Coquitlam School District, #43. We created the Swing in Schools inreach program for two reasons:

1. To rescue PE teachers who are uncomfortable teaching dance and who want to provide their students with a more meaningful and practical skill than the Square Dancing they did in school.

2. To promote Swing dancing in general and West Coast Swing in particular, to the Arts community and to the youngest generation.

Being the youngest and most accredited partner dance instructors in Vancouver, Myles and Tessa have the unique key combination of:

The Swing in Schools inreach program is customizable to the needs of the school and the individual teachers and students. It includes followup exercises for in the classroom as well as evaluation suggestions and tools. A variety of dance styles are available.

In addition to teaching in the classroom, Myles and Tessa are also available for performances as part of a larger assembly, school dance, or concert.

Before Myles and Tessa came in to teach my PE9 class I was very nervous about how the class would respond to learning West Coast Swing. After the first 5 minutes of instruction and introduction they were sold and so was I. Myles and Tessa grabbed their attention right away and held it for the entire class and then the entire week. They were funny, relaxed, professional,. full of energy and amd a ton of fun to have in our class and our school.

The other teachers in the PE department were even commenting on how much fun it looked and how engaged the students were. There were even a few of those students who do not usually get involved in PE who were having the most fun and participating fully. As the week progressed the class got more and more involved and enjoyed the dance even more. It was a fantastic learning experience for the class as well as for me.
